How to Pick your Vape First Set-Up
Back in the 1980’s at Redfern Oval, this old man used to snake around the crowd on the hill selling Peanuts.
“Get your peanuts! Sugar-coated or in the Shell!!”
You’ve had both before but as he got closer, the decision got a little harder. You hand over a fair chunk of your pocket money, 40 cents, and you still haven’t made up your mind. You umm and ahh a bit, pick the sugar coated peanuts and you missed Souths scoring a try to hit the lead with 10 to go.
You think maybe the roasted ones would have been better and after your first sugar-coated nut crunching in your mouth and the sweet smell of a win you’re pleased with your choice. Can you always buy the other ones sometime in the future right?
Well, buying your first vape kit is like that but 100 times harder because….choices!
Lots of them… and we haven’t even thought about the 120 odd flavours by clicking the E-liquid link above…DON’T click on that yet!
So, I’m going to share some thoughts and opinions with you as there is no right or wrong way to go about it. I’ve seen a lot of new vapers wanting to buy a vape Starter Kit. Almost all of them want to give up the smokes and I can see the daunting decision-making process on their faces as I watch Jay and Aiden weave their magic. Expertly extracting information from a nervous new one to make it easier in the choices.
At this point, I think it’s important to mention, that we’ve been there. We know what it’s like. It’s scary to think of losing something you’re really deeply attached to (smoking)….and the idea here is to swap that with something less harmful and just as, if not more, pleasurable and cheaper in the long run.
Still with me? Good. Sit next to me right here…. Not too close…
These are the three main things you need to think about when picking your first vape:
Your current smoking habits & style
You’ll notice I didn’t include “budget” and that’s because embarking on this vaping journey is going to save you money within a couple of weeks. BONUS!!
Your Lifestyle: If you are a tradie working a full day and possibly a bit of overtime you’ll want something that’s going to last you the day. Go with a dual battery mod with a decent sized tank. You won’t need to worry too much about access to electricity of having to refill your tank with juice…though, a small bottle of spare juice will fit in your lunch box easy just in case your having a tough day….you’ve got a lunch box, right? Battery life is critical for you and depending on how much you are drawing from your mod will determine how much you get out of your battery.
If you work in an office and like me, you were ducking out for a ciggie every hour or so you can choose something like a single battery mod if you want something that’s light and easy. You won’t be blowing massive clouds so a nice mid-range tank will suffice. You’re smoking buddies will tease you a bit but you’ll be the one laughing inside and not smelling like an ashtray in the lift (pssst! They’ll be asking you heaps of questions too and wondering why you look better)
I think you are getting the drift here. You can always later, keep your daily work vape and buy another one (you will). Keep the one that got you off the ciggies and buys another more stylish one from the money you save and it looks good beside a bottle of Chardonnay in a posh restaurant with your partner or buddy getting some of the benefits too.
Your Personality: Straight forward here… if you have butter fingers pick something well built. These might be a little more up in price but you don’t want to break something and end up in a panic, buying a pack of ciggies. Be honest with yourself…are you going to be OK taking out a rainbow coloured kit? Silver brushed steel might be your thing? Maybe dark and mysterious or bright and cheerful is more your thing. Give this some thought because you’ll be surprised by how much the looks of your kit adds to the visual desire to want to vape it is. If it looks good…it vapes well.
Your Smoking habits & style:
For me, this was a huge factor and I secretly think it is for all new vapers but perhaps not realise it.
If smoking for you was something you did to mindfully think through an issue or problem solve something stressful then there are some great MTL starter kits. Mouth to Lung (MTL) kits mimics a tight draw, giving you time to contemplate. There are tanks that give a decent MTL experience and can be opened up with a simple adjustment for a decent cloudier full vape experience.
I bet, we all probably did that thing, where we smoke a couple in a row before going to bed or what I used to do….sit out the back in the mornings, reading the news on the phone, trying to wake up with a cup of coffee and an overflowing ashtray on one side and I’d lite one before the other was finished trying to cram in the nicotine. (That we’ll soon replace with no ashtray and a flavour that goes nicely with a strong morning coffee).
The great thing about vaping is that you won’t need to change your old routines..in fact, keep them. Especially for the first couple of weeks.
So, there are my three things to think about when trying to pick your first Starter Kit. Don’t worry about Ohms, resistance and other geeky things just yet, We’ll get to those a bit later. The first thing we want to do is get you going in the easiest and most efficient way possible. Make it fun, interesting and most of all make it work. As in “fairdinkum this works, I smell like Vanilla Custard and I feel heaps better” kind of works.
Click on that “Starter Kits” button up the top of the page, also check out the Mods section then Regulated mods in the drop-down menu and check out some of the dual battery options. Check out the New Arrivals…there are a few new options there too. “Kit” means enough to get you started. Plus flavoured juice.
Better still, if you can pop into the shop and point at something with a finger or stick. The pictures make the stuff look HUGE and you can get a better sense of things holding it in your hand and talking to someone.
I hope this helps a bit in narrowing things down when trying to choose. It’s much easier to go to a shop and say, “I work long hours outdoors and want something that’ll last and I’m a heavy smoker. I want something rugged” rather than being asked 100 questions trying to work things out for you. Does that make sense…..try and get it down too…..Sugar Coated or in the shell?
All the best on your new adventures.
